called ID said Bethesda, MD. When answered, caller hung up. When I called the number, the machine said to leave name and number and someone would call back but the mailbox was full.
This caller also knew my name. I too ask for the website and the caller didn't know it. He asked someone and gave me iupa.org and it seemed legit. So I told the caller that I would donate online so his "boss" got on the phone and said you would not be able to donate online. I told him that I am looking at "Donate Today" block on the website. Sure sounds very shady caller.
Same happened to me. I asked for a number to call back and verify as well as a website he snapped at me saying all he needed was the 16 numbers on the front of my CC and the expiration date and wouldn't even ask me for the 2 digit code. I asked for he mail me the donate form which he said he could...then shifted back to badgering me for my CC number again. I hung up. DO NOT DONATE !!! Its definitely a scam!
The guy said he was asking for donations for some police fund. Not sure if its a scam but it weirded me out that he had my cell phone number. Most people asking for donations call my house. Also when I said I wasn't donating, he just hung up. Maybe they should find someone more friendly to make the calls.
