Got this call not long ago... and Google Voice automatically flagged it as SPAM and send it to hell.. I mean voicemail.
If your TelCo has the Simultaneous Ring feature, ENABLE IT and point it to your Google Voice number. So now, every call to your phone number will also ring your Google Voice number.
- What does this do? It gives you a record of EVERY call to your phone
- What good does THAT do? You can then use Google Voice to block those numbers, so the next time any of the blocked numbers call your phone again, Google Voice will intercept and block it.
- How is this different from using the TelCo to block the numbers? When Google Voice blocks a number it plays the "NOT IN SERVICE" tone and message
- As an added bonus, Google Voice automatically detects known SPAMMERS and sends them to voicemail even if they've never called your phone before - yes, exactly like Gmail but for phones
I don't work for Google, but just thought I'd share because these f-ers are really pissing me off so the more ways we can screw them over the better. If you have a third-party call blocker, that'd work too. Spread the word.
Just friendly bit of advice:
when an unfimilar person calls and ask for you by name NEVER say "yes". Use who's asking, why do you want to know?Anything but yes. Most often their calls are being recorded, if you say yes "they" can dupe the recording and make it appear you gave them permission for whatever.
BE CAREFUL crooks are using Every trick in the book to steal our IDs, SS#s, bank info any and everything.
Companies are so greedy they don't care who the sell their client lists to. Don't become a victim, report it!
Thank you for your time.
When I answered the phone a man asked for my daughter by name. When I asked to take a message and who was calling, he replied "the police - a charity she helps us out with." The voice was very gruff and scary. They called more than once that day. I gave the message to my daughter, but fortunately, she did not call them back.
