Actually you should never answer unrecognized numbers... once you answer then the scammers knows it's an active number with a real human attached to it...
Your phone number can then be sold to other scammers because these people do not care about Do No Call registries as they spoof their phone numbers and are therefor untraceable
Hey Folks!! The Washington Post did a bit of research on these "organizations". What they actually are is some schmuck, probably in his parent's basement, claiming to "represent" the "police chiefs of America", the "Deputy Sheriffs Association", the "Fire chief Association", the "Fire Hose Rollers", etc. etc. ad infinitum ad nausiem, or some other "official sounding" name(s). It's doubtful if any of these "organizations" actually exist anywhere outside of the schmucks brain. Research has found that only a maximum of 20% of the money collected ever winds up with any charity. And the "charities" that get funding are questionable too.
At LEAST 80% of all money collected is used for "administrative expenses" - which really means - in the schmuck's pocket. My response to this schmucks official sounding spiel (if and when I actually answer the call) is very simple "...Oh, so this call 'may be recorded' huh? Well, record this - '...Take my name off your sucker list - I'm not ever giving you any money." Then I hang up! I haven't gotten one of these bu**sh*t calls in a very long time. (surprise, surprise) I suggest all of you do the same. Hope all this is helpful

Sometimes (more and more lately) I agree with the late George Carlin, who said "...they should change the name of this country to 'The United States of Bu**sh*it", every time I come across one of these scams.
