This number called today - my elderly mother answered. They badgered her to accept what they were selling... They told her that by switching our phone service to them we would get a cheaper rate... for $39.95 per month plus state and federal tax. I called AT&T and the lady I spoke with said more than likely it's a "long distance company" trying to tap into our phone bill. We have never used our long distance service on our landline... so the customer service rep from AT&T discontinued our long distance coverage through AT&T - saying if we don't have the service they can't "switch" it. So basically they convinced my mother to switch from "nothing" a month to "$39.95" plus tax per month. Now that we no longer have long distance carrier they can't switch it and they can't charge our phone bill. And there are notes in our records to state to this... in case something comes up in the future. Also, the cust service rep from AT&T said they can switch us as long as we have the service but without the service they would have to call back and get third party approval to "add" long distance coverage to our phone line. This is just so aggravating how these scam artist take advantage of our elderly... makes me sick!!!!
Somebody above says these creeps are bugging people's homes by dialing and setting up a listening device. Not sure if I buy that, but we have a landline. Didn't answer; no message.
