Turn your ringer down on your phone or leave the phone off the hook.My ex used to do that since he worked nights and did not want phone calls waking him up.
This happened to my unsuspecting "elderly" mother in July. She apparently gave them access to her computer. I had her change all her passwords and we contacted her bank. Is there any evidence that these folks can do/have done damage? Thanks!
This explains why I received a call like this tonight. It's because I recently turned on my Dell computer, which I seldom use, especially when it acts very sluggish all the time. Recently, though, I did have it on for a little bit. This scam caller probably mostly targets Dell computer users. The computer I ordinarily use is the other one, which is NOT a Dell computer, but one made from various parts. Anyway, as soon as I heard that it was someone who was speaking with a foreign accent saying he wanted to help me on my computer, I instantly hung up, since I knew it was a scam, after receiving several such type calls in the past. I ended up answering the phone because I was lying down in my bed, thinking it was one of my friends (who has a Private number) calling me, because the phone made its default ring. I also did not bother to see the actual caller ID information, which I should have. By the way, neither of these two computers have Windows on them. The Dell one originally did, though.
Calls repeatedly and says nothing. I am sure it a scam after reading all these posts. I called the number back right away and it said the number you reached has been disconnected. So apparently someone has gotten around the caller ID and displays a fake caller ID......grrrrrr
Play dumb and string them along for as long as you can. i do. i only stop when I'm bored or my wife gets pissed at my waste of time. This is about getting your money, not information. They WILL disable your computer if given the chance and hold it for ransom. If these jerks have the slightest thought that they might get you CC number, they'll stay on the phone for hours. Waste as much of their time as you can and have fun while doing it. You can get them SO FRUSTRATED! LOL
