Got a call today from someone soliciting for some kind of breast cancer research assn in Florida. When I questioned why the caller ID stated Wyoming, the caller said they were routing calls from their main line (?) I said I never donate to phone solicitors and hung up.
They have been calling for weeks. At first, when we would answer, there was no one on the line. Then we simply started letting it ring out (but they let it ring forever) and now we've started picking it up and just hanging up immediately.
I missed another call from them today, and I called them back. The woman that answered said "Organizational Development, mine name is ___, how can I help you?"
After doing some research on Organizational Development Inc, I found that they are a for profit business, but they call around to solicit funds for charities. The only problem is, if you get on the phone with them they don't actually use the proper names of the charities they are supposedly raising money for.
They say "Kid's Miracle (or in some cases, Wish) Foundation" Instead of Children's Miracle Network. Or "American Breast Cancer Society" instead of just American Cancer Society or The Breast Cancer Society (which, incidentally, I've heard negative things about).
It sounds like a scam to me. I wouldn't give my money and I'm currently in the process of getting on their no call list. We'll see if it works.
