A call from this number came through to my cell phone. My son just started as a freshman at UCLA, so when I saw Los Angeles area call I was understandably concerned. Now reading this blog I do think it was fundraising from UCLA, and this very likely originated from UCLA somehow because they are the only people in that area (we are in NC) that have my cell number. Overall I have found their fundraising very aggressive, we have received heavy pressure mail solicitations, and as brand new student parents struggling under the weight of out of state tuition we are not amused.
One poster suggested calling Megan to take our name off the list. I have not done that, but I did call the 8479 number twice to scream at them and tell them to stop calling. It did no good, so obviously they could not care less. I'm blocking all the 206 prefix numbers, and UCLA will never get a penny from me. They need to seriously relook at their calling campaigns. Pissing off all of your alumni is not the best thing to do.
UCLA has called me several times from this number so I finally answered so they would stop. They wanted me to update my address and I asked them why they couldn't just email me to ask me this instead of bothering me on the phone, ugh. Then they asked for money, starting at $250. I said, I'm not going to donate anything, and then the poor kid had to ask me if I'd donate $100, $50, and then $25. I kept saying, are we done here, and he just kept talking. How annoying!
If any alumnus of UCLA think this is a legitimate call, you need to get a refund on your education and return your diploma. The scary thought is why these people keep calling the alumni. They must be getting some of you geniuses. They're probably Trojans!!
