I just got a call from them as well. Automated phone call asking me to answer a survey on the nation's debt crisis. For my time I get a 2 day cruise to the Bahamas. Seriously???? I'm on the do not call list as well. Scammers....
"The do not call provisions of the TSR cover any plan, program or campaign to sell goods or services through interstate phone calls. This includes calls by telemarketers who solicit consumers, often on behalf of third party sellers. It also includes sellers who are paid to provide, offer to provide, or arrange to provide goods or services to consumers.
"Callers purporting to take a survey, but also offering to sell goods or services, must comply with the do not call provisions. But if the call is for the sole purpose of conducting a survey, it is exempt."
"Violators may be subject to fines of up to $16,000 per violation. Each call may be considered a separate violation."
This company is subject to the FCC Do Not Call requirements, as stated above. If they give you grief, cite the info above and follow through with your FCC complaint.
I too received a call and it was a hangup. Called the number back and learned that it was ESG Research who is doing a survey on the debt crisis. Yeah, sure! Gave me on option to be removed from their call list which I did. Will be surprised if that happens though. It this WERE LEGITIMATE, they would not be hanging up. No way in hell would I give them a debit or credit card number.
Called us in Wisconsin. I did not answer, but I found out it is from Beverly Hills, a landline. I hope reporting them to the FCC as another user mentioned, stops these scammers.
