This is happening to me right now and I trusted it completely. Stripe, what I use for credit card payments, contacted me to inform me of a scam to this nature so I did research. How do I report him?
Same Upwork scam as listed above where this Adam/Phillip guy wanted to pay for a custom designed gallery wrap canvas for 2K, and wanted to work outside of Upwork. Told him that I wouldn't take payment outside of Upwork as it is a breach of their TOS, and he stopped talking to me. Reported to Upwork staff.... sad this same person is still able to access their services, and try to scam others.
I'm a graphic designer on Upwork, and Phillip / Adam offered me $3,500 to create a graphic design for his 10 year anniversary. What tipped me off to his scam, was he kept asking for "Graphic Design" not ever clarifying what he actually wanted to have made. Thanks to everyone in this forum, you saved me a headache!
This guy is trying to scam me right now with our Las Vegas VIP Services. Claims to be in the hospital and planning a 30k budget event. He even provided a fake passport.

Same thing has happened to me. Luckily, like Kelsey, Stripe reported the scam to me and I was able to "refund and report fraud" through their site. I received a job request through UpWork with a $3000 budget for a gallery wrapped canvas for a wedding anniversary. He wanted to move from conversing on Upwork to text and email. Went by the name of David Kennedy. Keep a look out for this guy. I have now blocked the number and don't answer numbers that aren't saved in my address book.
