Indian accented guy using a very American name saying I owe on a payday loan from 12/07. I did not ever recieve this loan nor does my bank ever have any record of this money being deposited into my account as he states. They just called my father and best friend yesterday and told them they needed to have me call them. I have no idea who this is, but I do no owe them money and will not pay.
They called multiple times starting at 6 am stating I had defaulted on a loan from 12/07 and gave me a company name of Bahama Investment Group...very threatening. I asked for their registration # with Oregon, I was put on hold and then the was disconnected.
They phoned back, threatening telling me I should get an attorney, etc. I work in a law office, and knew my rights and asked for every bit of information and communication to be put in writing and mailed to me at the address they had on file. I did not confirm or deny any of the information and it has been 2 weeks since last call.
DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY INFO. Ask for the registration # for your state, in order to collect on debt they have to be locally registered and ask for everything to be sent via mail, not EMAIL, this is not valid information.
This place called me at my place of business saying I was listed as guarantor for a payday loan for a girl I have not spoken to in over 3 years...I told them I did no such thing and to stop harrasing me at work. Then theythreatened me with "picking me up at my place of business"; however I work in the business and asked for a supervisor; I became irate and told them they better stop calling or I will send the authorities after them, then he hung up. Both male; sounded like they were from India. I did a look up of this phone number and it is a landline in Chicago, IL with no name attached located on N. Lasalle St.
Thanks for the info. I just reported them to the FTC and placed my personal numbers on the do not call registry. I am also going to place a fraud alert on my credit report. You can never be too careful.
