I had the same sticky note on my storm door today: "I dropped by, we need to talk. Please give me a call. Signed by Shawn. I assumed right away it was a scam since the only thing that appeared hand written was the name and phone number. I did NOT call!
So, I got this note on my door today 5/30/2011. About 30 minutes later I noticed a gentleman tagging my neighbors doors with the same note. I raced out and confronted him. He claims he is the Sales Manager: Shawn Brooks with Canopy Construction. He calims he gets paid a base fee for referral business and that right now they are offering FREE roof inspections due to the recent hail storms that hit St. Louis. When I advised him of the fact that you cannot reach anyone at the number provided he seemed unconcerned at all with my impression of the situation and instead turned around and tried to show me all of his charts and facts about hail. DO NOT call and DO NOT take a free inspection from this person. If you do, PLEASE get a second opinion ( BEFORE ) you get the first opinion, would be interesting to see what kind of scam they may be trying to pull. I can't say they are not legit, but so far their practices do not seem transparent. PROCEED WITH CAUTION.
Good info on here folks, thanks for sharing. I could tell it was not a "real" note on my door, figured I'd check out the number. Must be quality roofing if they cant tell I just got a new roof a few weeks ago (or I really got taken on the work they just completed).
