My husband just got a call from and Indian man stating he was from Microsoft and that our computer had reported an error 2 days ago. I said that is kind of odd since the computer had been off for over a month. The man kept insisting that it this wasn't a scam. I finally said he was full of sh*t and hung up on him.
this is a scam. Indian accent men trying to gain access to computer to show you a virus that they plant once they have control. Do not trust! Used fake american names Brant and Don Wilson which is scary since I know a Brant Wilson. Probably using private information to gain trust.
I knew It was a scam from the minute I picked up, but I love messing with these crooks. He wanted to know information about my PC, what brand. I told him it was an IBM Selectric (tee-hee). He said he was unfamiliar with that model and could I give him an IP so he could remote in and repair it. I asked him where on my typewriter will I find an IP. He said no, your computer..... It was fun, but then he got nasty and hung up. Blocked both calls received today - this one 315-996-4496 and 201-991-8880 - Robo dialing.
The caller claimed to be from Microsoft. He said I had purchased protective software from them last year that was likely defunct and asked to get remote access to my computer to check. He said if it was, I was eligible for a refund. I pressed him for information and he said to go to www.support.me . As I'm not an idiot, I did not go to the website, but instead reported this to Microsoft.
