Called saying it was microsoft and wanted me to start pressing a bunch of keys saying my computer was about to crash. Couldn't understand half the things they were saying in Pakastanian. Finally hung up
Got the same call. After his pathetic drivel about bad downloads and blah, blah, blah, which took about a minute and a half I calmly said, "Oh really? That's funny because I don't even have a computer so I'm just wondering where you're getting all this information from." He hung on me. .... LOL!!
This guy has what I believe to be an Indian accent. He has been calling for the past month and I always say I have an Mac. I'm pretty sure Microsoft doesn't contact you, like EVER.
They had a thick indian accent and I couldn't hear the caller behind all the other callers in their room. They said they were from Texas, where my phone said it was from Vermont. He kept calling back. Another call from an area code in Virginia. Then Minnesota. Then "Unknown." Persistent, aren't they. Their goal is the same as other note-takers on this list, to get me to a computer to report a problem. They say that they are not microsoft but they are "Windows Technical Support," reportedly from Texas, but all those numbers were routed through different states, according to my phone.
Similar to 'Anonymous' on 6/17/14. When I was searching my internet, a 'WARNING' appeared on screen, from Microsoft, on behalf of my carrier, Charter Communications. Said that my info was at risk of being compromised, and gave a phone number to call. (I didn't log that information, so don't have the number.) I could not click out of this warning message, which led me to believe that they were protecting me & it must be legit. Anyway, I called the number & a man with a thick foreign accent (Indian or similar) answered and proceeded to walk me through the steps to eliminate this "risk." It was exactly the same experience 'Anonymous' reported on 6/17/14. I complied with what I believed to be innocuous instructions-- to a point. I told him I didn't think he was legit and ended the call. A moment later he called me from #000-000-0084, 'Security Screen' saying the phone call had been disconnected--from MY end--and wanted to proceed with his instructions. I hung up, and he called AGAIN, this time from 000-000-0848 saying call had been disconnected. I called Charter Communications, and was told that this was a Vishing SCAM, and that it was a good thing I didn't give any personal information. (BUT--he DOES have my telephone number now.)
