I'm pointing a loaded gun at your forehead. I'm taking your wallet, your mobile phone, and your vehicle keys. Whoever you are, I'm the person who needs your possessions more than you do. I'll probably locate your family and do the same to them. I'll get away with it, too, because it's not armed robbery but just an inconvenient transfer of wealth. You won't bust me because I will soon know everything I need about you, while I make certain you know nothing about me. I'm covered in the event of a lawsuit, so don't bother complaining to anyone. Either pay me or get used to being dead.
By the way, the leading cause of death of a person's rights is apathy. "Shady collection" shops everywhere thank you for your support.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
List of State AG’s offices: http://consumerfraudreporting.org/stateattorneygenerallist.php
File a complaint at the NY State AG's Office here: http://www.ag.ny.gov/http://www.ag.ny.gov/
Since they claim to be attorneys, also file a report here: http://www.nycourts.gov/courts/ad4/AG/AG-index.htm
This is a number from a shady collections office. Whoeever they are calling for is the person who has debt. They'll probably call your family too. Its not a scam but just an illegal attempt to recover debt. They probably have your ssn and all your private info.
Also everything Big A posted is useless. They probably dont even pay checks out with that conoany name anymore or use it for there merchant. Also these guys change address's and company names so often you'll never track them down. They also have themselves covered in the event of a lawsuit. Either pay them or get use to it.
So BigA's post is "USELESS?? Why don't YOU post something useful since you think his comment is a waste of time?? Of course you would need to show FACTS to back up your claim.
You also state "It is not a SCAM but just an illegal attempt to recover debt." Look up the word SCAM before criticizing someone who posts facts. A SCAM is a dishonest way to make money by deceiving people (Meriam-Webster dictionary).
