They call random numbers, if the person answering the phone sounds strong, young, or aggressive they hang up. If the voice sounds older, weaker, kinder, confused, they start there rant trying to get the caller to give up personal info to use against them.
My parents received a call yesterday from this number. The person calling was phishing for information from my parents. pretending that he was a relative currently in Mexico, and making his way to LA to visit. "Don't you remember me, aunty? Come on you have to recognize my voice. You know who I am." Once my parent said one name the caller took that name an ran with it. he asked my parents for there address so he could "..visit and maybe stay the night." My parents got suspicious and told him to call back when he was in the US. I told my parents the guy sounded like a con artist, and not to give him any information. If he called again they should ask him Family information only real family should know.
The guy called back today. When my parent started asking questions (what's your sisters name, when's her birthday, your grandma's name) he knew his game was up and got abusive. My Dad told him he was a thief and the line went dead.
If you have older relatives(or even if you don't) watch the first 30 minutes of the movie "Criminal" (2004), you'll see how this CONS work.
Be careful everyone. My parents got scammed by these @55 holes! They claimed to be a family member that was coming into town and got into a car accident and the other victim was gonna press charges. But they came to a cash settlement agreement and needed the rest wired to them in mexico. They will be vague and not say their names...my parents unfortunately are too trusting and assumed it was real...and wired them the money. They let my parents do the all the talking and basically made them give up family names and they used that against them. They changed cell numbers a couple times and tried calling back again just recently. Now i monitor all incoming calls. They also used this number from Mexico 554-986-9923. I hope this doesnt happen to anyone else.

I just got a call from them too and they hung up. I really wish something could be done about these crooks. I mean, where are our rights? I only picked it up because it's my area code. I get so many of these calls and I'm fed up and consider it an invasion of privacy.
monday 6:30 am, jan 10 2011. got a call from them, didn't reconize the number, and also thought who the hell is calling me at 6:30 a.m. i didn't answer because i KNOW that if it is an important call from someone, they will leave a message. no message, of course. then i see on this site lots of calls from this #. they are obviously scammers of some sort.
hey general rule people, if you see a number and don't recognize it, don't answer it. if someone REALLY needs to talk to you, they will leave a message.
This guy keeps calling me and telling me all this shxt nd its gettin me pist off cuz he calls for no freakn reason. Im sure tht of he dnt stop i will take tht # to the police nd finnaly find out who really is callin g me cuz freakn low life got nutin better to do than b calling ppl nd messing wit them!
