I got tired of these calls so I put a whistle on my table by my chair. Then when I got one of these calls I would grab the whistle and blow it as hard as I could. I've had some that never got the idea and just kept on with their spiel. So now I just don't answer calls I don't recognize. I've placed all my phone #'s on the "Do Not Call List" but that doesn't seem to matter to any of these con artists. I have answered some and played with them, and if I can't understand the person I say so and hang up, then immediately place that number on my block list. I was getting calls from overseas so I contacted my provider and they put up a block of those numbers for me. I still got a few calls right after that but it would only ring twice then stop. Now I don't receive them at all. What a lot of these con artists are doing is routing their calls through a U.S. server, so it can look like the call is being made from a U.S. # or possibly even a local area code, which makes you believe its someone you might know and thus answer it. They use all kinds of tricks to try and fool you so beware. BTW I got a call from this number today, 5/19/16. I didn't answer, no voicemail, so they go on the block list.
I didn't answer this call from California. Blocked it immediately. I'm on the do not call list and I swear to God, every day more and more numbers get through. It's getting ridiculous. What's the purpose of being on a DNC list if telemarketers are using tricks to call you?
You're exactly right - every single day more calls come in!!! I'm amazed that in the year 2016 and with the technology that we have available to us, that this unwanted and bothersome activity from these scammers can't be stopped?!?! I'm on the DNC like you, and I'm sure like most people complaining on here. It doesn't seem to matter one iota!! These irritants seem free to call whomever they want whenever they want, regardless of how badly people like us want their calls to stop. In fact, I just don't want them to stop calling, I would much prefer that they are busted for their extreme aggravation and that their entire operation gets shut down, immediately and permanently! How somebody can call a person day after day after day, with some apparently really important reason, yet NEVER leave a message speaks for itself. They need you to answer so they can "catch" you on the line for their pitch - just like a fisherman needs to hook the fish to catch it! Why can't they just leave a message as to why they called and provide a phone number, that way whoever is interested in what they are pitching can call them back to discuss. The fact that they won't do that is bs!!! They just want to catch you on the line and they don't care how many flipping calls it takes. It needs to be stopped, someway or somehow!!!
One other thing - beware of strange "local" numbers calling now. Seems like these scammers realize people with caller ID will see things like "Los Angeles, CA" when they live in Pennsylvania and then not answer. So, they seem to have purchased "local" numbers to where you, the call receiver, live so that more people will answer thinking it's possibly somebody they know. Again, total bs!!!
