Got a call today, my caller ID shows the number is in Illinois. Looked like a weird number so I didn't answer it. I called back and it said the phone call could not be completed as dialed. Probably spam!
You are darn tootin' it is!! There are NO numbers in the United States, at least, where the exchange (the three digits immediately following the area code) are less than 200, and NO area codes less than 200, either.
This number has a legitimate US area code, but breaks the rule followed by ALL telephone companies in the US that the exchange be 200 or greater.
Therefore,
(1) The number is a spoofed, illegitimate phone number, in which case it is certainly a scammer, or
(2) The number is a legitimate number from overseas, but is too long to be displayed on your caller ID device, in which case it is almost certainly a scammer.
Don't answer these calls, and if possible, don't let your phone or voice mail pick them up, either.
I got this call today, no message also. I've blocked the number. My concern is the call came in about 30 minutes after I made an account on monster.com for jobs to apply for. Anyone out here been on monster lately?
