vova is at it again (he or she?) texting from 1-614-379-3146 and email [email protected] to a listing on craig's list asking me for my info to send a check. Purporting to be a US Marine. just to let you folks know.
You had better talk to your parents and have them go with you to the bank and explain that you're the victim of a scammer. You will be on the hook for the amount of the check unfortunately, although your parents may end up responsible, since you're a minor. Take any envelopes (Fedex) and paperwork this guy sent you, as well as print up any emails he sent. Any time someone sends you a check and asks you to send a portion of the money back or on to someone else, you should be aware that it's a scam - always.
We send it via moneygram at walmart. We do not have all that money to pay it back. Is there anything I can do to sue for the money? This is so messed up because we can not pay it back..
You could try talking to Moneygram, however, this is like untraceable cash - that's why scammers ask people to send money to them via Green Dot/Vanilla/MoneyPak/Western Union and Moneygram - because there's no way to get that money back, nor is there any way to actually see who got the funds. :(
I would report this to them anyway, and your parents will have to talk to the bank - they may allow you to pay it back over time, not all at once, but I can't swear to that. Again, take all the paperwork (envelopes, emails and whatnot) that the guy sent, with you when you go to the bank.
Sorry you got scammed; it's an expensive life lesson for sure.
I am freaking out. I haven't cashed this check yet, so what do I do with it?! Is there a way to get the person to pay the person who sent it to pay the bank back?! This is bogus! Im scared to tell my grandma, because she warned me about this..and I doubted her and now look what happened... :'(
