Called and asked to speak to the "owner". When it was stated that individual was on a call the person hung up. When I tried to call the number back I received a recording that all representatives were busy and someone would call back within 40 minutes.
Right. Perhaps, to save her ttime & trouble, you should have offered to meet her at your ATM to make it simpler for robbing you directly.... I'm so fed up with this BS- I can't answer my GD phone and I need to take calls from people I don't know right now. But,like the election, there ain't shite I can do about it. As citizens of the USA ,particularly we who are not billionaire seniors, our hands are now completely and irrevocably tied and no one is going to help us. That is a fact.
My friend, now they have the information they were seeking- 1. Not only do they have a Live number but 2. There is a "mark" on the other end, someone who is interested in their "services". Never ever ever call these people back. The calls you will receive "back in 40 minutes" will be more scammers calling from spoofed numbers, those whom the original caller has just sold your number.
I was in the process of reporting another spoofed number at 800Notes when *this* call was ringing in. Don't know anyone named Lafayette, LA , didn't pick up. Rule of thumb to discourage more of the same: if caller ID lists only a city/town + State, there is a 99.9% chance that call originates from overseas & is using a "spoofed" number in the USA to get the call thru, they can get access to area codes nearby. If this seems far-fetched, contact your phone service provider and ask to verify a caller named Lafayette, LA, Shrewsbury, MA etc. I guarantee you the nomenclature doesn't exist or if it does, it's not a legitimate call i.e. The New York City Public Library will not call you out of the blue. If your job description includes answering phones & returning unknown calls your're stuck- keep it short, don't engage them that's what they want. As individuals, it takes discipline -in this day of urgency & immediate gratification when your phone is stuck to your face or [***] - not to take every single call the second it rings. Take the call if (1) You recognize the caller (2) You're job hunting (3) A friend/colleague has advised you, in advance, that they've referred someone who will be calling you named "Lafayette LA", expect the call. For the most part, if you don't want exponentially more calls each time you answer , let it go to voice mail; legit callers will leave a message or they won't. But the 2 *worst* things you can do is to engage them or call back.
