How many times have you been called? I've been called 3 times since yesterday. Have you taken any action? was told that this is a scam and to just ignore it. But, if they continue to call, I may take another step.
I was left a message and told to call 346-971-6231 because the IRS was filing a lawsuit against me. So, shocked and completely off-guard, I called the Texas number (thank you, caller ID). The gentleman couldn't hear me well on my phone (I do have an "el cheapo") so I called on my cell phone. The phone would ring one long time then hang up or either ring and the call failed....5 times. I called back from my home phone and it went right through. Strange huh?
So I asked him why the call? He says I, Heather ________, am the taxpayer and they have sent a notice to me. I assured him I had seen no such notice. I then asked what address they sent it to and he listed my previous address (where I haven't lived in over 2 years) to which I replied, "That is incorrect" (red flag #2). He immediately stated my address prior to that one and it was incorrect (red flag #3). So,I told him: "If you were really with the IRS, you would know my correct address and the fact that you are scrolling through my prior addresses is a huge clue that you are not legit. How do you not know which address you sent this supposed letter to? So, you aren't really with the IRS, are you?" He answers, "ma'am hold on a minute". Me: "No 'hold on a minute'! I am not giving you time to try and do a search for my correct address! Do you really not know who your employer is?!?! I'm just wondering what scam you're a part of posing as the IRS."
