I don't know how these scumbags get all of these numbers, computer generated, I guess, but I have reported to the FCC, what a joke. It is a direct abuse of our rights.
I just got called by these idiots, a recorded msg told me I could reduce my credit card rate, press 1. I did, and some guy came on the line, burped, and asked me "Are you in debt?" I said "Excuse me", and he repeated the question. I said "No" and he hung up on me. WTH?
People, people... THIS IS A PHISHING SCAM!!!!!
Just got the call for about the 8th time over 6 months. Don't know if it's the same phone # as the rest, but I think I have it figured out. First, the phone number is probably spoofed, meaning what your caller ID is showing is probably incorrect (not the true phone # of origination). Second, it is definatley originating from a cell phone (can tell by the voicemail when called back). Third, I'm pretty sure they have fake background "office noise". I have actually seen this done before. They will have a boom box or computer speakers where they are sitting, playing office noise (voice chatter, keyboard typing, ringing phones, etc.).
I wanted to find out what the scam was, so I was going to play along... "Racheal" answered and asked if I had called for some reason, but i couldn't understand her, so I said "I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you." She repeated herself and I still didn't get it, I said "one more time my phone has a bad speaker" and she hung up!
Solution... next time they call I'm going to say (hopefully before they hang up) "You just called my phone that is hooked up to special equipment that traces spoofed #'s, I'm coming to get you!"
EVERYONE... PRESS #1... AND SAY SOMETHING VERY THREATENING... maybe we can scare this chick out of her choice in a life of crime!... or at least into something a little less annoying.
If anyone can play along and get to exactly what info they're after, please post it. I'm curious to know.
