I've received a few calls in the last month from this number. I looked it up online and saw all the posts about it being a scam, someone with an Indian accent claiming to be from a debt collection company trying to collect on a past due membership to Gold's Gym.
I decided to answer tonight and see what it was about. Same thing happened to me. Thick Indian accent, claiming to be from a debt collector claiming I owed $150 from a membership back in 2005. I did have a membership in 2005, but I cancelled it in 2007 at renewal because I was moving out of state. I've had the same cell phone number for 11 years. I told the guy I didn't owe Gold's Gym anything, and in fact I re-joined 6 months later in my new city/state. I kept that membership for 2 years, and then didn't re-new.
I told him I know this is a scam and I do not owe anything. He continued to argue with me. I told him again I know it's a scam and not to call me again.
I called the Gold's Gym I went to at the time. They don't even show me in their system anymore. She said if I did owe them money, it would still be showing, and they don't even use outside debt collectors. They collect all their debts themselves.
Total scam, don't fall for it. The other thing to consider is someone has hacked Gold's Gym system to get people's information to then contact them trying to fraudulently collect money. Maybe Gold's Gym should be responsible for this should anyone actually be defrauded of any money.
They called and it was a very bad connection and even asking multiple times where they were calling from I could not understand them. They said I owed a $70 bill that was ruining my credit score and if I could provide a method of payment to pay it now they could clear it up for me. I know for a fact that there is nothing like this on my credit. I told them I was not giving them anything and hung up.
Called me about an outstanding debt for a gym I had cancelled. She asked me to verify my street name and social security number. I explained to her that they are not a real debt collection company and to put me on a do not call list. she said she couldn't do that. the conversation ended with her saying along the lines of "Fine, I don't care about your debt anymore, it's rising as we speak. Have a good day."
Watch out for these people! They call from New York and New Jersey.
This DANG number keeps calling me with some jerk on the other end claiming I owe money. He asks me personal information in a sub-human language and speaks while I am trying to ask him a question. These types of call need to be outlawed. Who can help?
I DL Mr. Number and the calls are blocked. Now I'm curious to find out why they are calling me, since I've never even stepped foot in a Gold's Gym in my life.
