Heavy foreign accent (SE Asia?) from the Dept. of Treasury informing me of a "legal emergency" that need to be resolved immediately. Vaguely remember some similar bogus scam messages left weeks earlier. After some testy back and forth about getting him to tell me who he was calling from (never the exact same answer) or why they did not send a certified letter (we did, but you were not home to sign) he finally told me to call, this number 347-352-8557, x115 Danny Watson. Called back immediately to speak with 'Danny', and after some phone fumbling, the "security desk" sadly informed me he had left for the day. Very nasty scam and belligerent as well. Any connection to the similar accented individual who called from 206 462-5449 yesterday insisting that my windows 7 computer had been hacked and I needed to immediately give him info on the machine?
Just received the same call (347-352-8557)- Jeff Thomas with a big indian accent. Hung on the guy twice and he called back, irritated and told me I "hung up on his face", then threatened to send the local US Treasure officer to my house, proceeded to give me my home address, & i would be arrested. Little scary but I knew what was going on so decided to play along for a little bit...then called our local police dept who said the call is going around and an officer will call me back to take a statement.
The funny thing (b/c I can be a little geeky sometimes so had to google it), the US Department of Treasury number, initiating the case is out of NY (oddness 1) and John Spencer that I was to contact for "information on the legal action" against me was appointed the Secretary of Treasure in 1843 (oddness 2), and Jeff Thomas working for the Officer Spencer couldn't tell me anything about the case even though he was the "assistant" (oddness 3), and the number I was to call back (347-352-8557) is the same number "Jeff Thomas" was calling me from (oddness 4).
Just received a phone call from Jeff Thomas from Dept of Legal Affairs that a legal enfocement action has been started against me and that I need to contact them back as soon as possible. I have now block their call on my cell phone to stop receiving their phone calls.
