I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone. US mail only. IRS does not file lawsuits. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes. IRS has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of money. IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.
Called the number and it answered US Treasury. I started by saying that it was so funny they called and he promptly said, "*uck you *itch" and hung up on me. Next time they call, I think I might just pick up the phone with a blood curdling scream. Ridiculous.
Asked for my husband, and threatened me if I didn't pass along message. Legal action, and arrest if we didn't pay fines. i told him to send stuff via mail. He said they did. I said.. Since when do they send legal items via the US Postal service.
Sean Andrews called me too. Quick pitch about calling from the IRS and then immediately goes in to asking me for my personal info, so I hung up. He actually had the nerve to call me back and tell me that they were proceeding with litigation.
Sean Andrews called and said their was a legal action against my "itch of a wife, I said you better watch what you say about my wife you "rick"-I said take me off your call list and hung up on him, had the nerve to call me back and was leaving a message that he would personally see to making my "itch of a wife pay, I picked up the phone and said son of a 'itch and used my air-horn on him!!!! I hope I never meet up with this individual!!!
SCAM. Got the message from this number saying it was from the Department of Legal Affairs and that I should call back right away. I called the number they provided using a different phone number than the one they called me on, and I spoke to a male with a foreign accent. I asked some questions including why I would be getting a call from this number and he said I don't know and hung up on me.
