Left a voice mail saying it was a legal matter. Called back and claimed i had a outstanding amount and the state had a no tolerance policy for repayment and a warrant was issued for my arrest where i'd face 6 months in prison and my assets would be seized. They wanted me to make payment by withdrawing cash and giving them an activation number from a card i'd buy at a local CVS (or other similar stores) and give them part of the code so they could file it with my application to avoid arrest.
while on the phone I got another incoming call from a lady claiming to be with the US treasury. The Caller ID listed it as an Emergency Call and not a normal phone number. Not sure how they do that but it is part of their scam.
Left message regarding important legal matter, no name of who legal matter involved. Called back John Connor us dept of treasury, asked if I got cb 503 never heard of it. Also rude and kept cutting out. Don't call them. Any legal issue you would be served not called by phone
I received a call from an individual with a heavy accent, possibly Indian or Pakistani. He used the exact same narrative as the one referenced in Tracy Pacoe's comment.
I agree with the comments on this blog indicating that these calls are likely part of a scam and as such should not be taken seriously but rather reported to some authority for legal action against these individuals and their organization.
A man claiming to be William Roges with a very strong accent keeps calling my house looking for my son Matthew. He said he's from the U S Treasury and there will be legal action against him. My son called him and he said he needed $20000 dollars from him. My son hung up the phone. How do I get this person to stop calling me. The number comes up as 1-347-474-0010
I got a message this morning from a young womans voice. Message stated to call this # "to resolve a legal issue that needs your immediate attention". I have blocked that phone number for immediate hangup and will not be calling them back.
Comments above are correct. A legitimate legal matter would send US Mail, Certified or Signature Mail, or serve you in person. Any phone calls would at least include a persons name for call back and a main office phone number for a government entity or law office that could be easily verified online for legitimacy.
Side note ... 'Call Blocker FREE' by embware for android (on google play store) works great for stuff like this.
