When I called back the number, it was a female who also had a thick Indian accent and said she was from the CBI-Criminal Bureau of Investigation; whatever that is. She didn't even ask for me by the correct name so I'm not calling back, plus I have no ties whatsoever in NY
They claim to be the BCI Bureau of Crime Investigation. I have had three men to call me and they all sound like the same person from a foreign country.
I too have had a phone call from this company claiming they will only make one call and one call only and they need a return call from myself or my lawyer. Very hard to understand the woman calling. They called my work phone number and I called the number back and it was a foreign man's voice not identifying the company and just saying "leave a message". Strange.
Got a call from this number several times in a day with no message. Called it back and got "Please try again later." on his voicemail box. Thick Indian accent. Got more calls the next few days, tried calling back to no avail. Got another call ignored and it went to voicemail, message was threatening, man identified himself as "Officer Jenkins" with the department of justice BCI in New York (I do not live anywhere near NY), told me I was in serious trouble that he has had several complaints about me and would be sending officers out to detain me if I did not call him back.
First of all, my aunt actually works for the DoJ in Texas, so I knew that all I needed was to ask her about it and find out that it was total BS. I was still a little worried, since I had no idea why anyone would be calling me, and thought there might be some fraud going on using my information.
I decided to call the number back again from a private number over and over again until he answered. He said "Hello, can I have your name?" I asked him to identify himself as he had called me repeatedly and left no message and his voicemail box did not identify him either. He said he was "Officer Daniels," with the DoJ. I asked which and he paused and said New York. I told him I did not nor had I ever lived in the state of New York, and he proceeded to ask me repeatedly to give him my information. I asked him for his badge number and the published number of the office he was working out of and I would call him back at that number. He said then his name was "Officer Daniel Watson." At the DoJ New York and that I had his number. (which is unpublished, as many of you know with no legitimate voicemail box info.) He refused and started telling me that I was a criminal scum bag and he wasn't going to give me any information. I then told him that I was going to call the police and report his number for harassment and impersonating a police officer and he said that he never said he was a police officer. I then asked him why he said his name was officer Daniel Watson, and he said that he never used the word police.
Then I asked him where he worked again, and he responded the Department of Justice, and pleaded that I needed to give him my information so that we could take care of affidavit (I don't think he knows what that is). I told him I would be glad to give him my information if I could call the business he worked for directly and ask for him. I asked him how I knew he wasn't a scam artist stealing peoples' information, and he responded, "Yeah, because I'm sure your information would be worth stealing, like you're rich or something? I wouldn't be calling if you were." I asked him again to identify himself and the business he worked for or I wasn't going to tell him anything, and if he told me the DoJ NY again that I would call there and give them the number he was calling me from and tell them that someone was calling me claiming to be a federal employee from their office. He laughed and said he didn't care. I informed him that was also a felony and he argued that he never said he was a federal employee. The he hung up on me telling me I was a dirt bag who needed to pay my bills.
Unfortunately, since the company will not identify themselves, I can't really file a complaint about them, but we can still turn the phone number in. It sounded like the line was being patched from out of the country as it was echoing and breaking up a lot, so it's unlikely we will be able to stop whoever is doing this. Don't give them your information. They won't even tell you what company they are, give a legit phone number or address to send verification of debt letter, so they are probably scammers.
