Who called from 3602080905

I just received a call from this number. Looks like I'm not the only one who thought it was a scam 5 seconds into the voicemail.

Same deal. Indian accent, IRS, my name is James Williams and my employee ID is...blah blah blah...

1. IRS will only use the US Postal Service
2. They will notify you of questionable tax information prior to an audit.
3. Audit notifications come in registered mail
4. You will have an audit case number

As soon as I told the caller I was putting my attorney on the call, they hung up. These people are not just committing simple phishing fraud, but federal misrepresentation. This is what to do....notify the IRS and Secret Service. Do not contact them, let the agencies do it.

If you have ANY concern regarding your taxes, contact the IRS thourgh IRS.gov or a number you get from their official website.

Record the employee's name, badge number, call back number and caller ID if available.
Call 1-800-366-4484 to determine if the caller is an IRS employee with a legitimate need to contact you.
If the person calling you is an IRS employee, call them back.
If not, report the incident to TIGTA and to us at [email protected] (Subject: 'IRS Phone Scam')
