Just got the text about 20 minutes ago, I am currently in school, and we are not allowed to have our phones on. Luckilly I am in computer class so i could research it. The weird thing is with my case tho, is my friend (who has the tmobile G-1) recieved about 18 of them, and his phone started messing up and sending it to everyone in his contacts list. I recieved two of them, called his house phone and he shut off his cellphone to stop it from doing whatever it was doing.
the number he recieved it from was
1-360-936-4497
and the message said:
"February only www.weRmp3.com has music for only 8 cents a song! Over 5 Million songs to chose from! Go now www.weRmp3.com! Better than iTunes & works w/IPOD"
I am on Verizon and also applied to the Do Not Call Registry.
Exact same scenario. Asked me to take advantage of their ringtone service and download all the music I wanted. at www.weRmp3.com. I googled it here first and just deleted it since nobody else has seemed to find a way to cancel out without signing up first. It is more than likely just a spam program combining random phone numbers with known mobile prefixes and the email domains for each of the major cellular carriers. They probably dont have any of anyones personal information at all. It just ends up blindly by default as a text message from their spam-email machine. They only have the opportunity to prey on those who sign up for the service and give them everything they wished they had from you in the first place. (your identity/financial information for the "refund")
