My 70 something year old parent received a answering machine message from a person with (sounds like) an Indian type accent from 360-807-5520 that instructed to return the call, there is a lawsuit filed against "you" and to be at home tomorrow morning at 10:30 to be arrested. (Right then I could tell it was some bogus nonsense but had to speak longer to let my parent get the jest of this idiot's call.) I called back via cell on speaker with my parent listening and started asking questions: What's this about? He stated that my parent had wrongly filed taxes two years in a row and the IRS is calling to collect the money. My parent stated that the tax filing was with H & R Block. The person stated "They will not be 100% responsible for your mistake." I asked him how much is the amount? He stated $900 for the first year and $1200 for the second. What's the case file number? (He gave a bogus number.) What's your name? Give me the address to your local office. Gave me the address in Washington DC. He stated there is no local office for the IRS and that he was calling from the Collections Dept. I asked him for the name of his boss and told him I work for the iRS and so does my family members of 35years service (actually true about family members). He quickly and firmly stated "I do not like repeating myself and you can pay the debt today or do whatever you want." He hung up. Next thing I did was google the number and let my parent read these comments.
3608075520 - called my cell phone and left an automated voicemail saying it was an urgent matter and the IRS is filing a lawsuit against me and I need to call the number back ASAP. I didn't call because I know it is a scam. My husband received the same call and he went along with them for a while and they even let him speak to a "manager." Both people had a very distinct accent. When he said he couldn't believe they hire someone out of the country to call him - they said FU and hung up on him. Complete scam! This needs to stop.
