Same experience as Sharon. Called my landline claiming to be Rick Brown from Treasury saying it's believed I intentionally committed fraud on my 2012 return and that I was at risk of being arrested. I hung up on him and reported it to the IRS tax scams site.
funny that they called within two hours after I spoke to the IRS so that means that either IRS provided my number or they are greater than the NSA and listening in to our phone calls. but I will confess they called the work cell not the personal cell I used.
I just got the same but let it go to voicemail. The caller had a horrible accent, couldn't understand except the part that I owed money to the IRS and I am about to be arrested!! What!! I pay ALL my taxes all my life. Called the number back. The guy had an Indian accept telling me my full name & address claiming I got a letter in December demanding payment of $ 2,998. NEVER GOT THAT LETTER, I HARDY GET MAIL! I've gone paperless when it comes to my bills. If I didn't settle this now, an officer will show up at my door, handcuff me & take me to jail in front of all my neighbors at 4:00 today. I demanded all this in writing, he argued with me that they had clear evidence to arrest me. He said I could pay $500 today to prevent action. Asked me how much I could pay. Told him I'm a senior citizen I could give him my last $3 in my wallet. He exclaimed,"HOW DO YOU SURVIVE?" I said, "I don't!" Then he hung up. My heart is beating out of my chest!! So wrong!!
