They called me today, July 3, saying I owed $300 and needed to pay $100 for the next three months.  They said I had two accounts of criminal charges and they would see me in court.

No, you won't be served papers.  They're scammers trying to scare people by threatening them with arrest (debt is a civil matter, not criminal).  A big red flag - they wouldn't give you an address - a legitimate, law abiding company trying to collect a debt would have no problem giving you this legally required information.  Report the call to the FTC, the FBI and your state's Attorney General.  If they call back, tell them that unless they send you the legally required debt validation letter proving you owe a debt to them, they are SOL.  Advise them that you are recording all calls they make to you on the advice of your attorney for multiple violations of the FDCPA (even if you're not).  Bottom line - NEVER pay anyone who will not mail proof that you owe them a debt.

So they want you to pay $100 for the next three months, and yet they'll still see you in court?  These scammers really can't keep their stories straight, can they?

First off - they didn't mail you a debt validation letter proving you owe this debt to them (per the FDCPA).  Secondly, you haven't been served court papers - and no one give a heads up when you're going to be served.
Third - debt is a civil matter, not criminal, so you wouldn't be charged or arrested.

Got the same call as everyone else except guess what?! I am not the person they are trying to reach. The people they are trying to reach stole my address and phone number (public record) but not my name and SS# and have been running from debtors such as a car company, wireless company and others. I've been trying to get the collection agencies to quit calling me for over a year now. They sell the debt to someone else and the cycle repeats. Police say they will take a report but nothing they can do about it.

I received a call from this number and they also called my parents house. It was a half recorded message and half spoken. When I finally called back I spoke with someone named Ms. Henderson who said her client filed a complaint against me. She informed me her client's name was Loan.com and the complaint was a defaulted payday loan. She said I had a civil suit and I would be served papers but they are giving me the opportunity to clear up the matter before court. I told her I never had a loan with loan.com and their information was incorrect. I went to loan.com and it's basically a resource center where people can get information on many types of loans and from what I can tell they are not an actual lender. When I called back Ms. Henderson answered again, I said I wanted the name and address of her company. She said the name was AMG but they don't give out the address for security reasons. I hung up and filed a complaint with the FTC. This is a complete scam. DO NOT verify any information with them and DO NOT give them any money. File a complaint with the FTC so they can be investigated, it only took me 10 minutes online.
