I received my first call from this offending party this AM. Jan 17,08. It was from Evergreen Sales who left no message. They make the call for businessess with whom you have previously done business.
Watch out when you purchase an item from a department store,and etc. When you are asked for your telephone number to complete the sale, giving your number gives them the right to call you later.
Notice this from the "Do Not Call" website: "A telephone solicitation is a telephone call that acts as an advertisement. The term does not include calls or messages placed with your express prior permission, by or on behalf of a tax-exempt non-profit organization, or from a person or organization with which you have an established business relationship (EBR).
An EBR exists if you have made an inquiry, application, purchase, or transaction regarding products or services offered by the person or entity involved. Generally, you may put an end to that relationship by telling the person or entity not to place any more solicitation calls to your home. Additionally, the EBR is only in effect for 18 months after your last business transaction or three months after your last inquiry or application."
A sales person at a local departmemt store where I was in the process of purchasing an item, asked for my telephone number. I refused and the person said "I may not be able to complete the sale without your number." I replied, "If you can't find a way around it, I won't buy the item." Of course a work-around was found.
Once you give the business your number, you're off the Do not call list for eighteen months as far as that business is concerned. Protect your number--that helps protect your privacy.
In some cases you have to give your number (a cable company for example). Tell them up front to not share the number with third parties. It may help?

This call is not some scammer trying to get your credit card for fraudulent purposes. Your cable provider hired this company to call it's customers and offer different services that have come available for you. Your cable provider uses this service because they themselved do not have the manpower to make these calls themselves...

Same thing has happened to me as stated above. Caller said they were from Time Warner. They stated my home address and asked if it was correct. Then they started trying to sell me things and I said no thanks and hung up. A dozen other numbers are now calling me on average 3x a day asking for the same name that is similar to my own. When i yell at them and say this is not her number they just hang up. They are from all different area codes, one was from Readers Choice magazine. I hope getting my name from the do not call list will help.
