There are numerous telephone and email scams in which individuals claim to be employees of the Treasury Department. These scammers often state that they are from the “Department of Legal Affairs,” offer grant money in exchange for you wiring a small payment, or threaten to arrest you within a short period of time unless payment is made. Do not provide personal information or payment to these individuals.  Their actions are crimes under Titles 18 and 31 of the United States Code, and the Treasury Office of Inspector General is working to stop them.

If they claim to be from Treasury, report  it to [email protected] with a description.  If it was a phone contact, include:
the exact date and time that you received the call(s)
the phone number of the caller
the geographic location and time zone where you received the call
a description of the communication.

If they claim to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or it is about taxes, report it to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at:

called me in AZ this am at 8am..left message as i couldn't get to phone and i called back ..told them to send certified letter to me as the irs wouldn't be calling ..the East Indian women kept talking and i hung up on her..will report them to attorney general..i saved phone recording.

Called me twice this am. I called back. Mainly because i DO have a payment plan with the IRS that i have been paying on, so I was alarmed.

He Said i owe money (which is true, but the amount he stated was incorrect) so that was the red flag that told me this was a scam
he said I had been audited (which i hadnt been), a warrant for my arrest is out. they're coming to my house, my property will be siezed, cars taken, and license revoked. but i have 2 options: fight it or pay them 8750 over the phone.

message on my answering machine stating the IRS is filing a lawsuit against us.  the message told me to call 404 316 5563 to receive information on this matter.  We did not call back.

Checked my landline messages and received same call.  I wonder if the calls are coming from overseas but using a GA number as relay.  It seems if they are originating here it would be shut down quick by the DOJ.
