No, the IRS is not calling you, scammers are calling you. The IRS will contact you by US Mail if there's a problem and they won't threaten you with a lawsuit. This is a scam, plain and simple. Just block and ignore their calls.
received call from 404-462-4401 saying IRS was filing a lawsuit. I was skeptical and asked a bunch of info. When he wouldn't give me his address and said I will give my info after I collect information from you first - starting with what is your birthdate - I hung up.
Giggles... (had to laugh when thinking 'bout the knock on the door, which they'll soon receive :o)... Anyway, got the same automated call, something about a case & lawsuit on my voicemail, yesterday which was Sat. the 17th (IRS does not work weekends) & from this 404 area code (800 # for the IRS). It's the small details that always screw them up :o)!!! Anyway, this is a scam! IRS will send a mailing requesting more info & for you to call them, not the other way around. Rest assured, if you received a call/message from these people that they'll probably get more than 3 hots & a cot... if ya know what I mean ;o)!!!
Left a message claiming I owed back taxes and the IRS was filing a lawsuit. I called back and was a bit aggressive as to who they were, building address, who I was speaking with etc. He hung up on me when I asked if this was a scam.
