Okay this call is NOT from a debt collector but rather a company in India called Home Computer Securities. They use several (404) numbers 935-9114 602-9516. I have run into them twice now. Once as they identified themselves as AOL and last week they identified themselves as DELL... Both times I had a situation with each product. I believe they somehow send you a virus, malware of spyware and once you are infected they misrepresent themselves as someone from a company that their little spyware has collected from your computer. DO not take the call do not do anything but take your computer offline and run a scan. I reported them to both AOL and DELL.. but who knows if they will do anything so PROTECT yourself. I had to reformat my hard drive on my DELL and in both cases I called my ISP and had them change my IP address.
I called Dell support to verify that my system could handle an OS upgrade. Simple question, simple answer...in other words, I had NO PROBLEMS with my computer. Within two hours I began receiving calls from this and other associated numbers claiming to be following up on a Dell service call. I was confused at first, and tried to explain that they didn't need to follow up because I didn't have a problem, and then realized it was a scam -- somehow they're getting contact numbers from Dell and pretending to be associated with them. I contacted Dell through Facebook, who denied any culpability, which was disappointing. I received several calls a day for two weeks and asked more than once to be removed from their lists. I finally blocked all their numbers through AT&T.
IF YOU ARE A LEGITIMATE COMPANY, THEN YOU WOULDN'T KEEP CALLING WHEN YOU WERE REQUESTED NOT TO. YOU ARE SCAMMERS WHO PREY ON TECHNOLOGICALLY IGNORANT CONSUMERS AND SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES.
