How do you figure that you owe them money? Have you ever done any business with Portfoolio? Have you ever received any goods or services from these bottom-feeding vermin? OTOH, has Portfoolio Recovery documented and verified a debt they claim they bought from some bank that had written it off 15 years ago (and got generous tax breaks for the bad debt.)? Can they prove this is your debt? I forced these vermin to answer my inquiry to them by complaining to the state attorney general's office -- consumer protection -- their lawyer wrote back in black and white the admission that the debt could not be verified. So, has the so-called debt they say you owe them been verified? He also said they bought the line in a printout (from some bank I never heard of) in 2001, though they never started their harassment campaign until 2009. Statute of limitations, anybody? (That would only apply if they could verify the debt, which they can't, so back to square one...)Tell them to take a very long walk off a very short pier. You owe them nothing.
You would not believe how long the list of fake / purchased phone number list is - vast, well over a hundred. My personal block list is 24 numbers (area codes all over the country, including a couple of fake / illegal numbers i.e. 757-029-6735) and another list of 93 stored inactive numbers.
That makes well over 100 numbers Portfolio has purchased from all over the US, including toll free and fake numbers, for their call centers to use as fake caller ID's.
I love the comment you made about this number on your list
757-029-6735 (no joke - 029 is in the caller id)
if you notice this number (212-000-4956), it has a 000 exchange. There is nowhere in the US where 000 is a valid exchange.
I'm sure you are aware of caller ID "spoofing" (getting the call recipient's caller ID to display just about anything).
If you can get this software/app, try calling these people (assuming you can find a valid number for them) and have your number displayed as 382-5968 (hint:look at the letters on these telephone number keys and figure out what this spells).
Portfolio Recovery finally Mailed Me re:This "Debt" which come to find out (because I would not answer their phone calls) dates back to 1986. YES 19-86 Twenty Seven Years and I am pretty sure 27 Years ago was the last Payment I made which makes this what the Collection Agencies Refer to as a ZOMBIE DEBT...This is hilarious! 5 Years Statute of Limitations in my state...is the collections business that SLOW???
