This is a scam, but I'm not sure how they are making their money. Can anyone tell me?
I got a call from 404-889-8270 today from a woman with a British/Indian sounding accent saying she was from the Yellow Pages. She said my listing was expiring and wanted to know if I wanted to renew. I told her that I had not asked for a listing in the first place and would not be interested.
She said I had "verbally" authorized a two year listing in 2010 and that I had paid for it. I asked how much I had "paid" for it... she said $500. I told her I certainly would NOT have paid $500 for a listing. She said the reason I had not paid for it is because they haven't invoiced me yet--they don't invoice until the end of the two-year listing.
I told her that I would not be paying the invoice and she said that they will send it to a collection agency. I told her, "Please do send it to a collection agency." She hung up on me.
I received the call today at my business with the same story. First lady says the owner authorized the charges back in 09 and we owed them 599.99. She transferred me to some other lady who would give me a cancellation number. She said the call would be recorded and I could only answer yes or no because it would only record for 60 seconds. She got to the part about accepting the invoice and charges and I said no im not accepting anything until I see an invoice and proof and it went past the 60 second mark and she sternly told me to answer yes or no. I got a little smart with her and she started recording again and I did the same thing when it got to the invoice part and she got very mad with me and told me she would send it back to the corporate office and they would handle me then hung up. I tried to call the number back (caller id claims its a cell phone from Georgia) and it is not in service. Now that I know its a def scam next time they call I'm gonna have some fun with it and see how mad she really gets.
I received a phone call from 404-889-8270 from a woman who asked for the person in charge of marketing and accounts payable. I spoke to a the woman and she stated that we owed for the past year, $599.00 and change for the on-line listing on the yellowpages. Myself nor anyone else in our company ever approved such a charge with anyone. I received another call today from the same phone number. I looked up this phone number to see who exactly it was and if it was associated with the yellowpages online and many people advised to report this scam to the FTC as well as my attorney general.
I received a call today actually 1 week after receiving an invoice and collection notice on 2 separate JPEG Files. The woman asked to speak to the owner. I let her know she was speaking to him. She asked me if I wanted to continue my online yellow page listing, but in order to continue service I needed to pay the past due invoice in the amount of $599.00. I told her I was not signed up with her company, I didn't sign anything, and I wasn't paying 1 penny for this BS service. She informed me that If I didn't pay, interest charges and late fees would accrue, which would eventually lead to poor credit on my part. So I then said to her " let me get this straight, I never signed up for an add with your company, I was never approached by your company for any such add, you do not have a written or verbal contract with my company, but because your company took it upon themselves to create an add depicting my corporation, I now owe you money" Her response was "yes you do". I then ended the call with good luck and fock off!!
This is an Internet yellow pages scam.....The girl, who had a thick accent told me I owed for the last 2 years for my yellow page ad, which I dont have...haha....Then asked if I wanted to renew....Sounds like a credit card phishing scam. BEWARE!!! SCAMMERS AT WORK. The number is located in Georgia, but I would imagine the number could be used from anywhere. REPORT THEM!!!!!
I keep getting phone calls from this number, for the yellow pages part. My shop is an internal shop for a large truck rental company and do not advertise at all. They tried the billing nonsense with me and I pointed out not only do we not advertise in any way shape or form, but to contact our international corporate offices and they can try to bill them.
