This is a scam, but I'm not sure how they are making their money. Can anyone tell me?
I got a call from 404-889-8270 today from a woman with a British/Indian sounding accent saying she was from the Yellow Pages. She said my listing was expiring and wanted to know if I wanted to renew. I told her that I had not asked for a listing in the first place and would not be interested.
She said I had "verbally" authorized a two year listing in 2010 and that I had paid for it. I asked how much I had "paid" for it... she said $500. I told her I certainly would NOT have paid $500 for a listing. She said the reason I had not paid for it is because they haven't invoiced me yet--they don't invoice until the end of the two-year listing.
I told her that I would not be paying the invoice and she said that they will send it to a collection agency. I told her, "Please do send it to a collection agency." She hung up on me.
I received a call today from this number stating that our business was up for automatic renewal for the yellow page online listing. The woman said that it started in Nov. 2009 and the first year was free, but that we owed $599.00 for the past year. She wanted to know if I wanted to renew or cancel. I told her I wanted to cancel but I did not know about any automatic renewal in the past. She basically said I had to agree to the invoice to cancel the service, then stated our business name and address, except it was an old address from almost 5 years ago before we relocated. I told her that she did not have valid information, and she hung up abruptly. This is definately a scam trying to impersonate the real Yellow Pages.
A woman called, who seemed very unprofessional. She asked for the the marketing director and bumbled through her introduction and claimed to work for "Yellow Pages Online". She then stated that my "promotional listing" was expiring and needed to be renewed at a cost of $599 per year. I told her that I wasn't even aware of doing business with them. She told me that I had signed up in 2009 on a 2yrs for the price of one promotion and asked me to verify my information to validate the account. I told her, since she had called me, she should have the info. She then replied with an incorrect name and a correct address. When I told her that the name was wrong, she said, "fine, we'll just send you your invoice" and hung up on me. I tried to call back but just get a quick busy signal.
