You know, if the phone is just to use to harass people, why have one, keep it turned off, use only in case of emergencies.
This person called, would not say who they were with, just hung up, blocked call. I have an unlisted number, so how did they get it? Probably will have to change number or just disconnect the phone. We have internet today and we can use skype to call people. They will probably think of a new way to harass, and we can just come up with new ways not to be bothered.
These people work on commission, that is the way they make a living. For debt collections, they buy debt at an extremely reduced amount, pennies on the dollar sometimes, your debt, then harass you to make the full amount. It is a big business, and a big profit, for the ones they collect on. You can probably negotiate down your amount, but make sure they clear your credit report too, if not, don't do anything, as they will crash your credit anyway. Just a suggestion. I used to be a credit collector.

They just started calling me this week. As I never gave out the phone number, I guess they got it thru skip tracing, a thing we used to do when I worked collections at a bank in the mastercard department.
I took the advice of someone here. I can call out but can't get any calls in, so I set the fax machine. As soon as the phone rings it goes right to fax.
GOOD IDEA!!
Portfolio recovery has called me from 3 separate area codes so far. The last one was this number
