For our readers: Western Union is a CASH wire transfer service. CASH. You are sending CASH. A wire transfer is NEVER to be used for a business transaction, an online purchase, or to send money to someone you do not personally know. Family & friends only. Real ones, not the internet ones. Remember folks, it's CASH that can be picked up anywhere in the world. Nigeria, for example. If you know what I mean.

Same story here in Minnesota.  I reduced the price for a scooter on Craigslist, and this person sent me a text.  Then came the sob story about having ALS, and not being able to see it - but he or she trusted me and would make arrangements to have it shipped here - sight unseen.  I smelled BS in the air, and then wondered if others faced the same scam (which thankfully brought me here).  Thank you Al Gore for inventing the internet, so that I could read feedback about this scam.  In any case, I emailed this person back about having lawyers for friends and that I would report him or her to the authorities.  Amazingly, this person stopped contacting me... but I'm not sure why.  Must have a bad internet connection in Georgia or something.

Similar story here in Massachusetts. I got an email today from "Helena" today in regards to a wheelchair accessible van I have listed on Craigslist:

(404) 947-3685 to know more about it's condition.Thanks.

That seemed to me like a very nonchalant inquiry about a very expensive van so I figured I'd do a quick Google search before replying. That landed me here so thank you all for confirming my suspicions!

Evidently they're still at it in Massachusetts. I had some handicapped equipment listed on Craig's List. I received a text from this number that they wanted to buy it all, which I thought was kind of odd, so I ran a Google on the number and found myself here! I could see where it was going, esp when they wanted me to email them back with condition info, when it was all right in the ad. I suggested to call, but their "ALS" prevented them from hearing/speaking. Gave them my CL email, but they said they weren't going to send a "message to this kind of email". I wouldn't give them my personal email. They wanted a description, but yet said they'd buy items, sight unseen, even before I finished describing them AND BEFORE I QUOTED A PRICE. So, I sent an inflated price, which they agreed to right away. Not even sophisticated enough to be believable! They asked for address and zip where "shipping company" could "pick it up". By this time I knew phone # was from GA, so I offered to deliver it in person. At least they were truthful about being in GA. That's when I told them that I was reporting them for their phishing activity on CL. Gee, haven't  heard back.  By the way, I think they liked your name, Helena, because they stole that from you. Again, not even sophisticated enough to use different names. Tomorrow they'll may use mine, but I doubt it!!!! Someone needs to close down this phone number (404-847-3685) for fraudulent activity.

Hilarious. Just finished a day long email string with "Helena" where I jerked her around with fake information. So obviously a scam. Who falls for this idiot?
