This company started calling me 4 days ago. It says it's a call from Allison M. Howard of Steiner Howard & Associates. When someone connects, they state they want the name of my legal counsel because a complaint has been made against me fr defamation of character and lying to a financial institution. They told me if I didn't pay the amount (plus interest and legal fees), it would be turned over to the state of Tennessee and I'd be subpoenaed.
Interesting.. A simple search via google shows an "Alison M. Howard" listed at a Crowe & Dunlevy. A search for "Steiner Howard and Associates" comes up blank. They are probably using her name and made up a "law firm" to put this scam over.
Report it to your states attorney general and the ftc.
I got my 4th call today. I called the attorney general and they told me it is a scam. They said if you are bothered by it get a free credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com. They told me that if you show an interest in calling back it flags your number as interested and they will keep calling you. I did that.
I had a bankruptcy 5 years ago and I have no debt now. That information is public record and they prey on our fears. They also told me that the legal system does not work this way.
They had info on my husband and something about getting money over the Internet and not paying it back. They wanted my legal councils name and said to send me the papers since I am an attorney and know they are a scam. Reported it to my states atty generals office and advised them if that, funny, they hung up on me! Idiots!!!
