Caller purported to be from 'American Power'; 'not selling anything' (plenty of boiler room chatter in background). Wanted to schedule a '15 minute interview' to determine eligibility for a $4500 payment from the US government to offset power costs without having to purchase anything! Wanted to know if my monthly power bill was over $100 and how many adults lived in the house. Gave me a confirmation number. Transferred to a verifier who asked if the scheduled appointment was OK. They have no website, "because we're not selling anything." !? I asked him for the legal name of of their business. He said it was "American Power Association" in Orlando and was registered in FL. No such business in FL per sunbiz.org.
Should have an undercover deputy sheriff waiting for the interviewer...
Sounds like a canvass for selling qualified home improvement leads. Fear. Greed. Urgency.

Exact same story with American Power Association - only the lady said it was a $3,800 goverment rebate. When transferred to the guy who verifies the appointment, I asked for their telephone number and address. The guy says they cannot give out phone numbers or addresses - only that they are near Orlando. I told him to cancel the appointment and he refused to take "NO" as an answer - so I just hung up.
Exact same story with American Power Association - the lady said it was a $3,800 government rebate. Free energy audit. Call came from 407-232-3897. Told her I did not want to participate. This is the second call this week.
Recieved a call from a representative of American Power Association. Have set up an appointment for Tuesday, 6/11/2010. They will call on Monday to verify appointment. At whiich time I can reschedule.
I would like to cancel this appointment, but when I call back I cannot leave a message. The responce is: voice mail box is full .The reviews I have read stipulate this is a bogus company Also there is no web site.
