Caller purported to be from 'American Power'; 'not selling anything' (plenty of boiler room chatter in background). Wanted to schedule a '15 minute interview' to determine eligibility for a $4500 payment from the US government to offset power costs without having to purchase anything! Wanted to know if my monthly power bill was over $100 and how many adults lived in the house. Gave me a confirmation number. Transferred to a verifier who asked if the scheduled appointment was OK. They have no website, "because we're not selling anything." !? I asked him for the legal name of of their business. He said it was "American Power Association" in Orlando and was registered in FL. No such business in FL per sunbiz.org.
Should have an undercover deputy sheriff waiting for the interviewer...
Sounds like a canvass for selling qualified home improvement leads. Fear. Greed. Urgency.
These vermin, and subsidiaries by various names, are ALL scams just to get you to set up an appointment so that they can break and enter into your home under false pretenses to sell you solar panels that will set you back 10's of thousands of dollars. Do NOT schedule an appointment with them unless you intend to have an attorney present to greet them, and as a previous writer stated quite possibly call the Sheriff's office to have a deputy ready and waiting! Call the Florida State Attorney General's office (Bill McCollum) and complain about these bogus solar panel companies whom ignore the Federal DoNOTcall rules. They hide behind a Skype account and the number that appears on your Caller ID is a computer generated fake number. They change it every few days. They think that they can flout federal telecommunications laws by using these ploys. They CAN'T! The State AG is ON TO THEM, and is actively seeking to shut them down and JAIL the owners!
These people are SCUM, and they deserve to be treated as such! I PAY for the convenience of a phone line for the purpose of making and taking calls for business, family, and friends. This does NOT give them the right to effectively break and enter into the serenity of my home and my workplace just because they can randomly dial phone numbers! I will not stop until ALL of these vermin are behind bars stamping license plates!
They say that they are not trying to sell anything, but want an appointment to talk to me. They just hope to get some sucker to answer the phone and agree to meet for their sales pitch.
If you made an appointment and they won't cancel, make arrangements to have someone with you when they get there. If you can't do that, call the Florida State Attorney General's office (Bill McCollum) and have their number handy when they arive to let them know what is going on.
I was called but told that their name was US power associates.
When I asked if they are a government organization, I was told yes on the first unwelcome call and no on the second. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that I could not and the first "gentleman" hung up on me. The message said to press 5 to be "forfeit my savings", but when I pressed 5 the message started over.
I am on a no call list, but I was told that they are exempt.
Well they are now striking in GA. I just recieved a call from a 770-687-4876 number. I did book an appointment, when I was sent to the confirmation dept. And told her that I could not guarentee that my husband would be here, she said that we would have to cancel and re-book. She did not try to re-book at that time .
Given the other entries I guess we should make sure we are here at the appointed time, if they are truly trying to break in I do have a police officer living on my street. Think I will let him know of this .
