Caller ID says Campbell CA. Automated voice message saying this was the second reminder from card services about my mortgage and referenced changes under Obama's legislation. I pressed 1 to speak to a representative. After a brief time on hold, I heard a man's voice answer and he asked for my name. Instead of giving him my name, I simply asked that my number be removed from their calling list. He hung up on me. Reported to do-no-call registry.
HOW DO I GET THESE PEOPLE TO STOP CALLING ME? i DON'T HAVE A CREDIT CARD OR A MORTGAGE. WE LOST OUR HOME 2 1/2 YEARS AGO BECAUSE WE COULDN'T GET A LOWER PAYMENT. I TRY TO TELL THEM TO STOP CALLIN BUT THEY ALWAYS HANG UP ON ME. HELP
Your use of the term "people" is considerably overly generous. You probably can't get them to stop calling -- they have been calling me for around 5 years now and it's always the same basic SCAM about lowering interest rates. I have found that connecting to the call and then immediately disconnecting (rather than answering or allowing an answering machine or voice mail to answer) does seem to reduce the number of calls. I.e., on a corded phone just lift the handset and put it back down or on a cordless press "talk" and then immediately press "off" -- or whatever equivalent buttons you may have. At least that takes less of your time and there are call block phones and devices that can automate the process somewhat. Pressing the number to be removed from their call list or attempting to ask them to stop calling is totally ineffective as whoever runs this scam has apparently decided that calling the same number 200 times is more cost effective than excluding the number. The call centers are likely located off shore and the "telemarketers" are probably paid less than peanuts.
Although it probably won't make much difference, but won't hurt either, you can report them to our bloated, ineffective, wasteful, pandering federal government bureaucracy at:
The best way to stop them over time is that nobody falls for their scam(s), the 2nd best way is that Congress pass legislation with very severe penalties for this type of activity and the telephone service providers enhance their technology to stop calls like this.
this will sound nuts but it was true and it worked. This medical scam that was calling me askin for my sister called. I told them she was in a group home (wich she is ) and i said ":u will not get her money." that company hasnt called back since. I think the words group home did it. disability peopel in group homes where teh home gets the check (or most of it) are evidently seen by scammers as a lost cause to pursue. I guess so would nursing homes and other such facilities...or mayeb they thot she was retarded..she isnt but there are more group homes for retarded peopel than those with serious psychiatric problems (which she has). that company hasnt called back since and its been at least a month. so it might be a way to get them off ur backs. maybe the company thot i woudlnt give htem the homes number --i dont know. i woudlnt have at any rate. or that she was just not worth pursuing because they rationalized there would be no money in it or she wasnt competent.
This agency has been calling for months (my number is on a DO NOT CALL list). When I get someone on the phone to take my number off the list they hang up on me. How can we stop these people from calling?!?!?!?
