Sometimes they will leave a message saying it is "Bridgette from card services". I never answer these kinds of calls or return them. It must still be a lucrative business because they are still calling after all these years. Not answering calls helps but doesn't completely stop them.
If it's a landline they're calling on and you're able to, try shutting off your answering machine and see what happens then. It won't eliminate all junk calls, but it will certainly cut back on a lot of them. They can't pass along anything with numbers that have no answer. A call blocker, or blocking app may be another good option. The lower interest credit card scam will never vanish either.

HERE'S THE KICKER - I HAVE NO CREDIT CARDS! and the 559-6314 number is actually the emergency line to one of the local municipalities. I'm so happy we have federal regulations against this type of calling - oh wait, what good are regulations when there's no one to enforce them. You can't get them to stop calling you, doesn't matter if you're on the do not call list, and it doesn't matter how many times you tell them to remove your number, they just keep calling. I guess you can break the law as long as you want!
