Rec'd call today about a bounced check from 2005 from Mr Wilcox about a car loan deposit that apparently a check covering company covered at the time and I have 24 hours to pay it or a warrant for my arrest will be enforced. I also was conferenced to a mediation company (university mediation I think).This account is over 7 years old and I'm not sure what to do. I have a family and job that I do not want to jeapordize but don't want to pay 2000 check amount as well as 1250.00 in fees.
Investigator Wilcox (Caller ID reads Steve Larson) just called me and my husband claiming we had a bad check from 2006 for over $1,000 and if we didn't pay in the next 24 to 48 hours he would have an arrest warrant issued for my husband. He had our old checking account information but refused to verify the original debtor or the exact amount of the check. When we demanded to have the documentation sent to us, as well as know the name of the original creditor, he refused to tell us citing privacy rules. He got really nasty and began calling us over and over and increasing his threatening. I have been called by legitimate debt collectors before, and while they haven't all been nice, they have all provided the required documentation to prove that they have a legitimate claim. This guy is a scam.
