Carrie,
Portfolio is well known for calling people like this and they do not care if you owe or not. This is why this company's is constantly being sued for violations of the FDCPA and TCPA laws. You can invest in a call blocking device, they run around 60,00 and you can block them, but your better off keeping a notebook of the calls along with any and all messages, also recording them if you speak with them. Check your states recording laws first, some states require you notify them they are being recorded.

Follow the steps in what you need to know and send them a cease & desist letter via the US mail, return receipt or certified.

Rcvd 1st call this evening from Portfolio Recovery Associates using a new number assigned out of Pittsburgh PA (412-235-6111). This bad debt company located in Norfolk VA, can continue to waste there time and money calling using different false numbers accross the U.S.. I have no outstanding debt of any kind so I don't bother anymore with answering or responding to their unwanted harassing calls. I use a Call Blocker to block all their area codes from bothering or ringing my private number that disconnects their call prior to being able to leave any message. So go ahead an continue to waste your time calling my private number that disconnects your call from any of your mis-leading/unidentified numbers. All area codes Portfolio Recovery uses have been block plus any unidentified numbers.
I file complaints with the FTC and FCC from Portfolio Recovery Associates for using a robocall dialer system and providing mis-leading numbers that can not be verified as a valid contact number used by this company.
You can turn the ringer off for any phone located in the room where you sleep. We do that at our house, not just for Portfoolio, but for all phone calls from any source.
by the time these Portfolio a$$holes call you, the so-called unverifiable "debt" is old enough to drive! If it is even yours, or if it ever was. Have you looked at your accounts to make sure nobody has been using your identity to run up unpaid debts at these other companies? portfolio has used nearly 50 numbers on the caller ID over the past three or four years. They get away with harassing the citizens because banksters have taken over what used to be our government.
Wow! Just when I thought they had forgotten me, Portfoolio called last evening apparently, according to the caller ID. They have been calling for four years now, nobody has ever picked up the phone. They shifted to a new performance lately using 800-772-1413, while hiding their identity on the caller ID, but now they are back to admitting who they are. This was call #307 since their sorry lawyer wrote to me and the attorney general's office that they could not verify the debt and that they had "decided to cease collection efforts." I guess it takes a while for these vermin to adjust to new "decisions" -- that was more than two and a half years ago. What a stellar business plan. Call a prospect for more than four years, from four dozen numbers, nobody ever picked up even once, but keep on calling. Poor Portfoolio, maybe some day like magic someone will pick up and agree to send them a fat check for a phony unverified debt. Dream on. little Portfoolio, dream on;-)
