MEL
This number called left me a message that they (a Chris Rollings?) were working with the "county on a civil summons and criminal complaint" against me and that should I choose not to cooperate with them, the plaintiff has enough evidence to receive a summary judgment for the criminal actions.  I have never heard of law enforcement giving you a notification of an active investigation.  When I called the number back to find out what it was a bout, the gentleman (I use the term sarcastically) I was put in touch with had the last four of my SSN and knew the right county when I asked him what county he was working with.  However, when I kept asking questions about the charges and what his company was trying to do, the man got rude with me and hung up.  I called him back to continue our conversation, but the same guy told me that apparently I didn't want their help and that he would just tell the "plaintiff" to proceed with their case.  He also informed me that if I called again he would have harassment charges filed against ME.  My husband tried calling and talking to them, but the man got rude with him as well, repeated the harassment threat, and told my husband that he did know how anyone could be stupid enough to choose to marry a woman like me.....What a JERK!  Needless to say I contacted the local DA's office and police department.....And today that number called me AGAIN.....Don't give into these guys.

Same thing with me. Did you receive any "summons" or legal paperwork?

Legitimate process servers do not call to warn you, or to get money from you to stop the process.  They will deliver the notification without warning.

Also, if you were threatened with an "arrest warrant" via a phone call or email, read this:
http://news.uscourts.gov/warning-arrest-warrant-scam

"The warrant is phony. A valid warrant would not be served by fax or e-mail. It would be served in person by a U.S. Marshal or other law enforcement officer."

"Anyone receiving a fake arrest warrant should contact the FBI or the district U.S. Marshals Office. If there is any question regarding the authenticity of a warrant, contact your district clerk of court."

as embarrassed as I am to admit this, my wife and I just got scamed by a person using this number. The story was the same as Mel's except we fell for it. It sounds like there's a little bit of hope. The bank will dispute the charge and launch an investigation. I hope and pray and beg that we cought it in time....
