Got the same calls.  Accented middle eastern man stating I should have my attorney of record call them as I owed money.  I laughed and stated to him I've been getting these same calls for over 2 years off and on and had yet to be arrested by them and told him he was a scamster and the American public was onto them.  The he started swearing and calling me some undesirable names and hung up.

DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED BY THESE PEOPLE AND ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU CANNOT BE ARRESTED EVEN IF YOU DID OWE MONEY TO A COMPANY. AS THAT IS A CIVIL MATTER AND NOT CRIMINAL.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

I had the same call. Which you just have to be a little smart than them and take over the conversation. Don't let them bully you with lies and deceit. Ask them a bunch of questions and they are bound to trip up. They hung up on me numerous times but me being me I called back again and again. They said I would be arrested in 3 hours and I said ok I will be waiting with documents for them. The guy I was talking to got scared and asked what documents. I explained the ones that lead to this phone number he was calling from and where the FBI will be arresting him. He hung up and the number is now busy each time I call. So EVERYONE play their game because we know we didn't do anything wrong to have a lawsuit. We all also know by law we have to be served and papers to be processed. No one can get someone served and papers processed that fast.. I had to laugh though because I reversed the script and he was the one scared. Good luck out there
