I got the same call. They left a voicemail and it sound like a recording "I am Nick Johnnson". says if from Internal Revenue and gives this number to return the call before they come after me. Such bull these fake scammers.
No, it's not turbotax. This is a phishing scam plain and simple. They purchase phone dumps and get the numbers in pools. I received this call yesterday not know it was a scam. It stressed me out bigtime. I tried to call back and the foreigner that answered hung up on me. I was pretty stress all night, today I contacted the IRS and was told that I was in good standing and that this was a scam.
Since I have several soft phones, and have 20 years of experience with key systems I set up my soft phone to call this number and hang up after answer. It's been doing it since 8 am. I just tried it from another phone and apparently, they are not happy that I've basically performed a denial of service attack on their phone system.
Don't be afraid, you are not breaking a law by harassing the harassers. Later today around 5pm, I've not turned off my system and I'm calling them from another softphone now, every time they answer I try to order a pizza. I can hear how frustrating it's making them and I keep telling them I just want my pizza.
